Kickstarter Concerns

thought:

how do you track the success of a kickstarter funded game like DF Adventure?    i mean, psychonauts shipped ~100k copies in the first year. Adventure has already sold ~80k copies. so all the year 1 sales have been made. are they expecting to make money from the game afterwards, or is it all up front?

if everyone who will buy your game has already bought the game, how do you make money afterwards?  this kinda of like, reverses the standard profit scheme for entertainment.  i know that other DF games, to continue to use them as an example, cost about 2 million dollars to make.  Part of that money goes to pay for the making of the game, but then the profits are used to pay back the people who funded it, right? do they need those profits to stay afloat? or are they just to reimburse funding?

although i guess they made roughly 3-4 times as much already than if they had sold 80k units after the game was made (assuming 20 dollar retail price. its they were goignt o charge 40 then they made exactly the same amount they woudl make from selling 80k copies, more or less. my math is super rough.)

im just curious what this kickstarter method means on the long term, if it will work after the game has been published, and what it means for the future of games.

The Elder Forest was as old as the world itself, some said. It’s trees stood as high as the heavens and it roots dug so deep that dwarves braided them in their halls. The Forest was vast, and filled with dangers. Creatures forgotten by a rational world still stalked between it’s trunks and flitted…

i started writing a new story today. i like it.

Manueluv and I are convinced Agent K is Coulson’s father. Hell, MIB is even owned by Marvel.

Welp. Never gonna unsee this.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiit

wow a good

i like it

technically the MiB are owned by Marvel and could be in the Marvel universe.  although in the comic they just kill people instead of using the flashy thing.

YAY! Boom Studios just released the covers for issue 2 of MARCELINE AND THE SCREAM QUEENS. Cover B is by ERICA HENDERSON! WOO. YAY! I’ve been waiting for them to announce the next issue so that I could post this cover. I didn’t have a whole lot of time to work on it, but I’m pretty darn pleased.
The original Boom post is here, along with the other covers (which are awwwwesome).

neat

Brett Beasley is an enforcer. His life gas never been going nowhere but down alleys and into the wrong crowds. Brett ‘s special talent to mimic the supernatural abilities of magic creatures has made him a walking Swiss army knife of magical techniques.

As a magical gangster, he has swapped the traditional robes for a flashy red suit and the wand for a madrone walking wand. His incisors are also covered in his signature silver tooth caps, a conductor for his breath weapons.

Bradley’s favorite power is his lycanthropy. While not a natural werewolf, he had absorbed the ability to transform at will. He is, deep down, a good person. He only collects from other gangsters who owe his don debt and donates regularly to charity. He knows he can’t be a traditionally good person, but he does what he can to try.

this has so much god damn style.

Nathan Ware is an air genasi, a lineage that can be traced back to the lofty elementals of the plane of air. He lives in the city of Daleport, a city of tall cliffs and white beaches. His family is large, and they’re funds stretched thin, so Nathan has taken a job as a custodian at the Temple of The Arts, where the clerics sculpt great work for churches around the world. There he studies art in secret, honing his talent.
